Let’s Talk Bookish: Putting Off Books You Actually Want to Read

I decided on my TBR theme of books I’ve been putting off at the end of February before I started Let’s Talk Bookish. How serendipitous that I post my TBR the same week as this prompt. You can see my put off books here! Let’s Talk Bookish is hosted by Eternity Books and Literary Lion. You can find April’s prompts here.

This Week’s Prompts

Do you ever put off the books you actually want to be reading? What do you end up reading instead? Why do you put off the books that you would rather read for other stories? Do you treat reading books you’re excited about as a reward?

Do you put off books you want to read and what do you read instead?

As a mood reader, I do this all the time! I want to read a book but I’m not sure I’m in the mood for it so I’ll just wait and pick up books that don’t feel as important. Usually, this means I put off books I know will move me in favor for books that are just lighthearted fun.

Why do you put off reading books you want to read?

There’s a bunch of reasons I put off books. Sometimes it’s my mood for sure. Sometimes it’s because of my blog. There are moments where books I really want to read just don’t line up with the posts I have planned so I put it off for better timing. I’ll also put off books if I’m too excited about them. I don’t want to be disappointed and it’s better to just not read it then have the possibility of the book not living up to the hype.

Do you treat reading books you’re excited about as a reward?

Sometimes! I’ve definitely done that with House in the Cerulean Sea. I wanted to read it so so so bad but it didn’t line up with my posts. I told myself if I got through the books I needed for my blog I could read it. Then I finished the book in two sittings. Sometimes treating books as a reward backfires for me though. I don’t do it often. Usually, I try to do it with books that I’m pretty sure I’m going to like.

Conclusion

I think everyone puts off books for their own reasons even if it’s not often. For me, it usually comes down to timing and my mood. But also, sometimes you just forget how much you want to read something. Do you put off books and why? Feel free to comment your answers or link your own Let’s Talk Bookish post!
