Let’s Talk Bookish: Qualities of a Book Boyfriend/Girlfriend?

This prompt was a little rough for me. Go easy, haha! Let’s Talk Bookish is hosted by Eternity Books and Literary Lion. You can find April’s prompts here.

This Week’s Prompts

Do you have any book boyfriends/girlfriends? What makes you fall in love with them? Is there anything all your favorite book boyfriends/girlfriends have in common? Do you prefer they come from certain genres?

Do you have any book boyfriends/girlfriends?

I definitely used to! I don’t remember when I stopped but mostly I like the characters my favorites end up with so I don’t personally claim them.

What makes you fall in love with them? Is there anything all your favorite book boyfriends/girlfriends have in common?

When I think about characters that I absolutely adore and would date if a real life version appeared and asked me out, they tend to be badass women. Kate Daniels, from the series of the same name by Ilona Andrews is one of my all time favorite characters. I also have a thing for sad emo boys if my obsession with Draco Malfoy from 5th grade until college is anything to go by.

Do you prefer they come from certain genres?

Not really. Though looking at the characters I call my favorite most of them come from fantasy books. I don’t think a favorite has ever come from a contemporary romance. Wait, that’s a lie, I adore Harriet from Moonlight Over Manhattan by Sarah Morgan and would date her if she materialized and asked.

Conclusion

This made me realize I miss having book boyfriends and girlfriends and themfriends. I’m not sure when I stopped doing things like that. It’s interesting the things you don’t realize you’ve stopped doing over time. Do you have book significant others? What character would you want to marry if you could?
