The Beautiful Blogger and One Lovely Blog Awards

Thanks so much to Lala at Lala’s Blog for nominating me for the One Lovely Blog Award and to Magda at Magic of Books for nominating me for The Beautiful Blogger Award!! You should go check out both of these wonderful ladies.

Anyway, since these award have basically the same rules I’m going to combine them so as not to spam everyone. It also makes my life a lot easier. 🙂

Rules for Beautiful Blogger

  1. Link to the blogger who nominated you.
  2. List seven random facts about you.
  3. Nominate seven creative, beautiful bloggers, and notify them.

Rules for One Lovely Blog

  1. Thank the nominator and link them.
  2. List the rules and display the award.
  3. Add 7 facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 7 other bloggers and let them know via a comment.

My 7 facts

  1. I have an amazing calico named Channie (embarrassingly after Chanyeol from Exo. I’m so bad at naming animals) and she’s my baby. My Instagram is basally just her sleeping in different places and being too cute for words.
  2. In case you missed it, I got a job!! I’m going to be an editorial assistant and I honestly couldn’t be happier.
  3. I prefer cold weather. The only thing hot weather is good for is going to the beach and I’m okay with doing that maybe 5 times out of the year at most. I’m so excited that the weather is FINALLY cooling off.
  4. I lost 20 pounds in 2014 and was super proud. I was exercising and eating healthy and I was happy. However, 2015 was the year of gaining that back and then some but I plan to dive back in as soon as I can afford to buy my own groceries again. (plus my new workplace has a gym and I’ll get a free membership to it. HOLLA)
  5. I once had a super popular Youtube channel where I made Anime Music Videos. I was such a weeb. (may or may not still be a bit of a weeb) Said Youtube channel has unfortunately been terminated and every video deleted because of too many copyright infringement things.
  6. I still have (and use kind of) my AOL email address.
  7. I’m a super loyal friend. Like if a friend asks me to do something I’ll generally do it even if I don’t want to. For example, I watched 8 seasons of Supernatural for a friend even though I didn’t enjoy more than the first 2 seasons or so. I’ve also been on almost every ride at Six Flags Great America because a friend asked (read: forced) me to. I don’t regret either because I did it for my friends.

The people I nominate

Okay I know this is cheesy but honestly I feel like I’ve been spamming people with tags and I don’t really want to do that. So instead I tag anyone who reads this and wants to do the tag! You all are lovely and beautiful I promise because why else would you be here. 😀 So thank me as your tagger. Do one of the tags, do both, do neither. It’s up to you!

The Original Questions

If you could meet anyone from throughout history, who and why?

This is extremely difficult for me. Several people jump to mind but I guess I’d have to say Joan of Arc right when she decided to become a hero for France. I’ve been fascinated with her since I first studied her in European history and it was cemented recently when I took a Medieval Women course. I want to meet the 14 year old girl who decided to fight for what she believed and just how she went about it.

What is your favorite book and why?

This is always an easy question for me. It’s Beauty by Robin McKinley. I read this book when I was in and out of psychiatric hospitals with depression and there was something about it that resonated with me and helped me get better. I’ve always loved Beauty and the Beast but because of this experience and having the right book at the right time the story will always hold a special place in my heart.

Who is your favorite fiction character from any medium and why?

Another extremely difficult question! I think my answer is going to be a little odd but it’s Anne from Persuasion by Jane Austen. I love her SO much. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s because she’s so logical in her thinking. Or that she tends to do as she pleases while still somehow being polite but she’s definitely my favorite at the moment.

Olivia’s Questions

If you could visit any place in time or space, where would you go?

I’d probably go to the future Chicago. I want to see what it’s like. Maybe visit the year 3000. It’ll probably be the same but everyone lived underwater (Wow. I am showing my age with that reference). Seriously though, I just want to see what the world will be like long after I’m gone and whether or not I achieved my goals while I was alive. Namely, becoming a respected, published author.

What was the last movie you watched? Was it good? Better or worse than expected?

Um, I think the last movie I watched was Mulan. When I’m sick I default to Disney movies. It was just as amazing as ever. It also made me cry for the first time in forever.

Which book are you absolutely dying to read?

My Nominees

  1. Claire from Art and Soul
  2. Syc from The Lit Mermaid
  3. Amber from Only True Magic
  4. Duchess from Duchess Reading
  5. Analee from Book Snacks
  6. Anne from Anne-thology of Books

Thanks everyone for reading!! Also, sorry if you’ve already been nominated. Feel free to not do the tag if you don’t want to or already have. 😀

Siblinghood of the World Bloggers Tag!

Back with another tag!! I can’t say enough how much being tagged in things means to me. I love feeling like a true part of the book blogging community and being tagged does that. So a super big thanks to Rae at Bookmark Chronicles for tagging me in the Siblinghood of the World Bloggers! 😀

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site
  • Put the award logo on your blog
  • Answer the ten questions sent to you
  • Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer
  • Nominate ten blogs

Questions sent to me:

  1. One thing that you cannot live without?
    1. Honestly, I don’t think I could live without my laptop. I’m not on it quite as much as I used to be. But even without internet I love my laptop.
  2. Favorite meal?
    1. This is tough for me. I don’t really have a favorite. But if I had to choose one thing I could eat 5ever, it’s french toast. Like good french toast made with cinnamon and vanilla in the batter. There’s just something about it that will never get old with me.
  3. What do you typically eat for breakfast?
    1. Cinnamon bunches of oats in vanilla almond milk.
  4. Book(s) that would make a good TV series?
  5. Worst book you’ve ever read?
    1. Sugar by Deirdre Riordan Hall. You can click here for my review of it.
  6. Favorite seasonal beverage (hot cocoa, pumpkin spice, eggnog etc.)?
    1. Okay so I have a warm weather drink and a cold weather drink. Neither of which are really seasonal but they are to me. Warm weather I LOVE a good iced peach tea and I can’t last through Chicago’s rather harsh winter’s without several Earl Grey Tea Lattes (made with soy because it’s sweeter that way).
  7. What are you currently reading?
    1. I’m currently in the middle of 4 books. I just started The Midwife’s Revolt by Jodi Daynard, I’ve been reading The Really Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson since the beginning of August, I’ve finally started Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas, and the third book in the Savannah Witching Series called The Void by J.D. Horn.
  8. If you started another blog, what would it be about?
    1. I would say writing but I feel like I could make writing apart of this blog eventually so I’d have to go with Korean Pop Culture. Movies, Dramas, Music and everything in between.
  9. What’s your dream job?
    1. This is a loaded question. Because I kind of have two and I’d prefer to have both at the same time. I want to be a published author but I don’t want that to be my day job. I also want to be an editor for books. Weird I know. I love writing but I also want to help others make their books as amazing as possible! If I sell well enough, I’d obviously end up quitting my job as an editor, but I don’t really foresee that happening.
  10. If you could go anywhere in the world (all expenses paid) where would you go?
    1. I honestly haven’t given this much thought. There are a lot of places I want to go but if I could only choose one, I’d have to say South Korea. It’s the country I know the most about. I even have a pretty decent grasp of the language. I want to see Seoul and go sight seeing and eat traditional Korean food so I know how it tastes. I also want to try what they call pizza because I’ve heard horror stories and I need to see/taste for myself.

Questions for Nominees:

  1. What book could you reread over and over and never get sick of?
  2. What song is stuck in your head (or was recently stuck in your head)?
  3. What book series do you dislike that everyone else seems to love?
  4. Where is your favorite place to read?
  5. Would you rather be able to buy every book you didn’t want regardless of money or only be able to buy one book you really wanted per year (this is assuming libraries aren’t a thing)?
  6. Coffee or tea? (or some other beverage)
  7. What did you want to be when you grew up?
  8. 3 things you love about yourself? (my previous stint into fitblr is showing here)
  9. How do you destress after a long day?
  10. Name a habit you have that you think is kind of weird.

  1. Sarah from Sarah’s Bookshelf
  2. Bianca from The Ultimate Fangirl
  3. Syc from The Lit Mermaid
  4. Elena from Elena Square Eyes
  5. Amber from Only True Magic
  6. Jenaca from Jenacidebybibliophile
  7. Darcy’s Book Blog
  8. Magic of Books
  9. Bradley from Hungover Fiction Lover

The Encouraging Thunder Award

Thank you SO much to Enthralling Dimple for nominating me!! 😀 Being nominated and tagged in things truly makes me feel like part of the community so I get super duper excited every time it happens.

  • Thank the person who nominated you.
  • Post the Encouraging Thunder logo.
  • Mention your purpose in blogging.
  • Nominate others for the award.

My Purpose in blogging:

This blog started out mainly as a way to gain experience in building SEO, managing a brand, and writing on a deadline frequently. Basically, I meant for it to help me stay on top of my game with writing and content management while I’m stuck in a line of administrative assistant positions until someone will risk hiring me for writing with so little experience.

However, this blog definitely became more than that and rather quickly. It’s a part of me. I want to share my love of books and let people know what I thought. That way others with similar opinions might be able to connect. I also really love interacting with the book community and I think my purpose has now become more about bookish interactions than anything else.

I nominate:

Sorry if you’ve already been nominated or have done the challenge! Feel free to ignore if you don’t want to do it. 🙂

Summer Madness Book Tag

I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond to being tagged!! This past week has been crazy. Anyway, thank you so much Amber at Only True Magic for tagging me!!

Unfortunately for me Summer seems to be making a comeback with 90 degree weather all last week. I’m so read for rain, and 60s it’s not even funny but I digress. Lol. Let’s get started with the tag shall we. 🙂

Show a book with a summery cover

Summer covers in general make me think of Sarah Dessen but I definitely think this is her most summery cover. Summer to me means hot days at a Lake Michigan beach.

Pick one fictional place that would be the perfect destination for a summer vacation

Honestly where better to go for summer than camp half blood. I mean yea, I’d need to be the daughter of a god but still it’d be awesome just to see everything and hang out.

You’re about to go on a flight to your summer vacation, but you want to read a book that lasts for the whole flight. What novel do you choose?

physical book of Beauty by Robin McKinley

Anyone who has been around since I started the blog, knows that Beauty by Robin McKinley is my favorite book. I’d probably bring this along to reread because even if I finished it (which I probably wouldn’t) I could literally open this book anywhere and continue reading from that page and be perfectly fine with it.

You have a case of Summertime Sadness. What happy book do you pick up to shine a smile on your face?

mindy kaling

This book had me giggling out-loud the whole time I was reading it. Mindy is hilarious.

You’re sitting at the beach all alone. Which fictional character would be your beach babe?

the winter ea

I’m sure this is a little unusual but I’d definitely choose Graham. He’d let me read on the beach while he graded papers or something but still play in the water with me when it got too hot to bare.

To match your ice cream, you want an icy cool sidekick! Which fictional sidekick do you pick?

Basically anyone from the Maximum Ride series (though I’m super behind) but if I had to choose one it’d be Iggy. He’s super funny and good with technology. All the things I need in anyone close to me but especially a sidekick. lol.

Share the Summertime Happiness! Who do you TAG?

I feel like my answers are all over the place so I’m curious to see what others post. I tag:

Rae at Bookmark Chronicles

Lala at Lala’s Blog

Miss Darcy at Darcy’s Book Blog

Feel free to ignore this tag if you’ve already been tagged or don’t want to do it. Also if you haven’t been tagged consider yourself tagged and post a link. I’ll take a look. 😀

The Blogger Recognition Award

A few days ago the super fabulous Bibliomad nominated me for The Blogger Recognition Award. I’m super excited and honored to receive this from her and you should all go check her out!!

Here are the few rules for the award:

  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post.
    • Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image above).
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing!

How I got started:

I’ve tried writing several blogs over the years. I’ve started a writing blog on blogger, I had a korean pop culture blog, I had a fitness blog, and even just a tumblr to reblog fandom things. None of these blogs lasted nearly as long as this one has. They all flared up and died within a month. This blog, however, has been going strong since May 6, 2015. That’s a solid 3 and a half months and I think my love and passion for this blog grows everyday. Thank you to everyone in the community who has helped grow my love and passion for book blogging!!

  • Blog about what you’re passionate about! I know this is as cliched and old advice as can be especially in the blogging community but after all those previous seen failed blogs above, I know for a fact it can’t be more true. All the blogs I tried to make before were about fleeting passions. I’ve always loved reading it’s something I’ve never stopped doing but with fitness or writing I have crazy spurts that last for a few weeks to a few months. That’s part of why I think book blogging has worked for me.
  • Try not compare your blog to other blogs! This is one I still struggle with. Sometimes I see an amazing blog who gets comments on every post and has tons of interaction with their followers and think that I’ll never reach that point. But they didn’t get there followers in a day or a week. It takes time. Also, the more unique you are the more likely you’ll gain your own true followers so comparing your blog to anyone else’s isn’t fair to you, your followers, or the other blogger.
  • Don’t blog yourself into a slump! Kind of like reading yourself into a slump, don’t blog yourself into one. If you post too much or try to force yourself to post too much you’ll end up hating the blog. Let posts come naturally. Or create a schedule you know won’t be hard for you to keep up with.

The blogs I nominate:

All these blogs have contributed to my love for the book blogging community and have helped me want to continue blogging even if they didn’t know it. They’re all amazing book blogs!!

Sorry if you’ve already been nominated!! Feel free to ignore this if you have. Thanks for reading!

Day Three: 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge

3 days 3 quotes

The third and final day! Woooooooo~

Reminder for the rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day.

Today’s quote is from The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri.

“One hand, five homes. A lifetime in a fist.”

It’s short and sweet but I find it so haunting. I had to read this book for my By and About Women literature course. I absolutely loved the course and this book. But 2 years later and this line is the only one that truly sticks with me. Anytime I read it, the mental picture of the woman who thought this and what her actions were when thinking still come to mind.

The last three people I nominate are:

Sarah at The Book Worm Blogg

Macy at Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Books

Adventures of a Dublin Bookworm (Sorry I couldn’t find your name anywhere.)

Day Two: 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge

3 days 3 quotes

Here’s day 2! Thanks again to Ashley from What’s She Reading for tagging me!!! Just a reminder the rules are below.

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day.

I chose a quote from Soulless by Gail Carriger this time. This line made me actually laugh at out loud when I was reading it and kind of reminded me of the inner dialogue I have running when speaking to people who think women are the weaker sex.wpid-20150720_184920-1.jpg

“How ghastly for her, people actually thinking, with their brains, and right next door. Oh, the travesty of it all.”

Today I nominate:

Analee at Books Snacks

Holly at Belle of the Library

Eleanor and Amy at A Fangirl’s Opinion

Feel free to ignore the nomination if you don’t want to do the tag or if you’ve already done it! 😀

Day One: 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge

3 days 3 quotes

Maker’s Breath! Thank you so much to Ashley at What’s She Reading for tagging me. This makes me feel like I’m officially part of the community. Being tagged. 😀 Sorry it took so long. I had a hard time deciding on what quotes to use. Moving past my excitement! Here is the challenge.

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
  3. Nominate three new bloggers each day.

Of course the first quote is from my all time favorite book Beauty by Robin McKinley.

physical book of Beauty by Robin McKinley

“At least I was true. My intellectual abilities gave me a release, and an excuse. I shunned company because I preferred books; and the dreams I confided to my father were of becoming a scholar in good earnest, and going to University. It was unheard-of several shocked governesses were only too quick to tell me, when I spoke a little too boldly — but my father nodded and smiled and said, ‘We’ll see.’ Since I believed my father could do anything — except of course make me pretty — I worked and studied with passionate dedication, lived in hope, and avoided society and mirrors.”

I nominate:

Kimberly at Over the Bookshelf

Becca at Becca and Books

Aentee at Read at Midnight

Please feel free to ignore the nomination if I missed that you’ve already done it or if you just don’t want to. 🙂
